To help them learn the skills that they would need to survive. To help them gain confidence and self assurance and to build leaders. Whether it is raining, snowing, or sunshine outings can be fun. But, only if we prepare. As we prepare for our upcoming trip remember that you as individuals and you as patrols need to prepare for what is planned and what is not planned. “When we fail to plan, we plan for failure”. In fact you hear the term flat earth is being used to describe how our technology is allowing us to extend our time for work and for leisure to a 24hour 7day a week experiences.
People are becoming caught up in this to the point that the idea of multi tasking has taken on new meaning. I want you to think back over the last week and ask yourself the following questions.
I carried on a conversation with another person while listening to my ipod or using another electronic device?
I was text messaging more than one person at a time?
I texted someone while in class or in a meeting?
I tried to do work or home work while watching tv or did something else?
All of these things are considered normal behavior by people today. But let put it in perspective against the scout law. How many laws did we break?
(Name a few with the boys helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient)
I challenge all of you this week to look at your actions and reduce the amount of time you spend multitasking.
Good friends remain only good friends only if you dedicate time.
You can only do your best if you give 100% effort.
You will only get stronger in your faith if you take the time to admire the gifts given you and around you.

A Lifetime

A person goes to see a famous piano player in concert. After the show they have an opportunity to meet with the performer. The person says to the pianist “ I would give half my life to play as well as you do.” The pianist responds “I did.”
As you progress thru high school and college you will read many stories of sacrifice for the attainment of a goal. The Astronauts who gave their life exploring space, Madam Curie who lost her life for her research into radiation. You hear every day about people who dedicate their life to learning skills, perfecting an art, or promoting a cause.
The fact is to master anything and to achieve a goal, requires that sacrifices are made some small some big. There is no easy way to gain something of value.
